"What does offense have to do with it? What do I care about your sly ways of tormenting a man?" ~ Carver Doone (Aidan Gillen)

Spirited and determined, Carver Doone is the ideal picture of corruption and power. The grandson and heir to Sir Ensor Doone, he has always been given whatever he desired... or taken it. Promised Lorna at a young age, he has faithfully awaited their wedding day, his obsession and desire mounting with the passing years as she has become breathtakingly beautiful. But when she refuses his advances, and Sir Ensor seems determined to pull back out of the agreement, his fury and anger is unleashed. Another thorn in his side is the  Ridd family, lowland farmers of which he killed one man, and would gladly kill another.

Proud and rebellious, he resists the advice of his father at every turn, greedily awaiting the day when Ensor will leave the inheritance to him. Knowledgeable of a tantalizing secret in Lorna's past, he wants more than her... he desires what her marriage will offer. Shielding this secret from her, Lorna is beginning to slip through his fingers. Upon the discovery that John Ridd is Lorna's lover, Carver begins a downhill slide toward destruction; while England divides in loyalties between James and Monmouth.

Believing that they can reclaim their ancestral lands through Monmouth, Carver and his clan take sides in the upcoming war, but the ever-looming thought of Lorna weighs heavy upon his mind... and if she is taken from him, Carver may destroy everything his grandfather has worked so long to build.

Character Traits

Carver is brutal, and often allows his heart to get in the way of his head. Determined and rebellious, his attitude is one of jaunty acceptance in the fact that he will one day replace Ensor as the Doone Lord. With pale, intense gray eyes, and a shock of raven hair, he is tantalizingly handsome, and his facial features express a great deal, from his moments of obvious disappointment to the violent anger that flares upon a moment's notice.

Memorable Moments:

There are many, but for me personally the most memorable scene takes place between Carver and John, when John is just leaving the Valley under the protection of Sir Ensor. Carver, a passionately jealous and suspicious man, has the farmer at his mercy, but is unable to raise a hand against him. Using playful and threatening banter, mixed with ill intentions and a snarling countenance, he threatens John with the blood-curdling, "If I ever see you here again, I'll blow your brains out." And looking into his eyes, you know he means it. John knows he means it. And yet lingering there is also a gleam of the challenge, of having the upper hand of which suits our "baddie" so well.

Memorable Quotes:

"You dare to stand in our house and call us murderers?!"

"What does offense have to do with it? What do I care about your sly ways of tormenting a man?"

"If you weren't the baron's son, you wouldn't be getting a second chance."

"Be careful, John Ridd... the path is treacherous."

"This is Doone land! I will never give it up! We will stand or fall here. I listened to you before, and look what happened. When Lorna comes home she'll find me here, waiting for her."
