"For the first time in my life, I am truly happy. I am loved for who I am, not for selfish reasons. I have the right to live my life in any way I want." ~ Lorna Doone (Amelia Warner)

At first glance, dark-haired, raven-eyed beauty Lorna Doone seems meek and mild, but underneath the gentle exterior is a passionate spirit of determination and courage. The heiress to a clan of bloodshed and violence, Lorna has lead a sheltered life, well within the confines of the Doone Valley, under the watchful eye of the man she knows to be her grandfather, Sir Ensor Doone.

As a child, she happened across a young boy, John Ridd, who had nearly drown in the falls, and lead him to safety. Later, he returned to learn more of this mysterious creature, and at first, she resisted his affections, knowing that she is betrothed to her dangerous and passionate cousin, Carver.

But when John's persistence continues in his plight to gain her fancy, Lorna cannot help but fall in love with this extraordinary man of the likes she has never known. Unlike her family the Doones, he is gentle and kind, compassionate and spirited, an honest, hard-working farmland. However, also vying for her heart is her enticing cousin Carver, of which she was betrothed at a young age, and he's not one to give up without a fight. Her grandfather desires her marriage to Carver, but her pleading releases her from this... unfortunately, her cousin has very different plans, and the day after Ensor's death, they will be wed.

Can Lorna escape this broiling den of ill intentions and secrecy, and uncover the shocking lies of her own past, before it's too late? But in the present looms an even more ominous future, with a man she hates. She must resist the murderous intentions of her elder cousin and break down the walls of prejudice that align the Ridd household before she can be truly free of her family's roguish destiny. But lying in the shadows is a scandal that may shatter her hopes for happiness forever...

Character Traits

Lorna is a very young and inexperienced girl, but has a compassionate heart that goes so far as to even pity Carver, her mortal enemy. She seems insecure and uncertain of herself, and this is perhaps her strongest temperament; however, when threatened, she does strike back. This leads to many controversies between herself and John Ridd, as well as Carver, Gwenny, and anyone else who dares step into her way. A well-portrayed heroine, Lorna is a consistently intriguing and surprising young woman.

Memorable Moments:

Undoubtedly the "Forest Scene," in which she rebuffs Carver's come-ons. Awaiting for John Ridd at the waterfall, little knowing that he is far away in London, Lorna is dismayed when it is not her golden-haired hero that appears, but her dark-hearted cousin Carver. In an attempt to persuade her to marry him, his threats are strongly opposed by Lorna's passionate and sudden outburst. Amelia plays this scene well, and milks it for all its worth with Lorna's shy innocence.

Memorable Quotes:

"For the first time in my life, I am truly happy. I am loved for who I am, not for selfish reasons. I have the right to live my life in any way I want."

"Ensor is sick. How can you honestly think that I would abandon him?"

"If you do not know the answer to that by now, then nothing I say will make any difference!"

"You think I'm playing some kind of game with you? Then listen to me! I have never loved you, Carver, and I never could! If you do love me as you say, then leave me alone!"
