Of Love & Obligation

Annie's wedding to Tom FAggus is about to take place, John walks into the room.

John "We better get going before Tom changes his mind."

Annie "John."

John "You look beautiful." John kisses Annie. "Come on."

Sarah "You do, lovely."

John "Come on!"

They all go out the door. The next scene you hear a knock knock at the door and the wedding party comes through the door with all the
guests. Music is playing and everyone is dancing and enjoying themselves. John is looking on and drinking ale.

Uncle Ruben "You're next, boy."

John "You need two people to make a marriage, uncle."

Uncle Ruben "Someone very close to you, is just waiting for you to ask."

John "I don't call London close."

Uncle Ruben "I'm talking about here, under your very nose. " He glances towards Ruth. "She loves you boy, any fool could see that. Just get over there, you ask her to dance. Go on."

John at first is hesitant at his Uncle's suggestion. "Why not. Will you dance, Ruth?"

John and Ruth dance then walk towards the garden with an arbor and sit down.

John "You should visit more often, Ruth. We don't see you enough. You know I, I have a high regard for you."

Ruth "I thought your regard was for another."

John "I'm under no obligation to anyone."

Ruth "I was talking of love not obligation."

John "Whatever you heard is not true. I'm a free man. Free to love anyone I want. What about you? Do you love someone?"

Ruth "There is someone who I hold about all others in my affections."

John "Then he's a lucky man. Does he feel the same way about you?"

Ruth "He knows nothing of my feelings for him."

John "Perhaps he knows more than you think."

Ruth "That is for him to say."

John kisses Ruth and then realizes he made a mistake, he expresses a big sigh. "Ruth, I'm sorry, I, forgive me." John walks away and Ruth looks horrified at what just happened.
